It worked beautifully.

I am trying to assign the X-Rray shading option to a hotkey or as an icon in shelves. X-ray shading is not available in the hotkey or shelves editors so I am a bit stumped. I have looked everywhere...

I think that you may need to check your normals and make sure that all of your overlapping vertices are merged.

I actually got rid of some loose vertices. That seemed to do the job.

For some reason when I perform a boolean opperation both objects I am trying to combine are deleted. Thanks for all response.
