I only read the first part of Dave's comment and did not see he had suggested selecting verts and then converting to faces.

So then I chimed in with selecting edges loops or partials and convert to faces.

And then you suggested select edge rings and convert to faces.

I just had to chuckle because I think we inadvertently covered every base.
