And another update, I decided to try redoing the UVs from scratch by trying to recut the meshes, but I started with the shoe, adding it to the UV set (with copy to uv set), then marking the edges and cutting/unfolding but it still doesn't show up on my UTE. but the head UVs still does. it's the same material and settings as the head, but just none of the other meshes even show up on the UTE except the head now.

bah! I'm taking a break from this because i'm definitely feeling like throwing my laptop out the window. It must be something simple and obvious to have caused them all to disappear but I haven't been able to get it to work and also haven't been able to restart the UVs.
