Solution: Maya with S3 Prosavage DDR
I recently installed Maya 5.0 on my HP Pavilion notebook ZT series (zt1195) laptop.
Unfortunately, it has a rather awful S3 Pro-Savage DDR graphics card, but I wanted to do modeling etc while traveling (I travel on business a lot). I would find that Maya would crash frequently, particularly when rendering or using the hypershade window.
Last night, I played around and finally developed a solution that will get a S3 ProSavage DDR to work with Maya:
(1) Right-click on the desktop and select Properties .
(2) Click the Settings tab.
(3) Set the Color Quality to Highest.
(4) Click the Advanced button.
(5) Click the Troubleshoot tab.
(6) Set the Hardware Acceleration to one stop higher than None (see attached image)
(7) Clear the Enable Write Combining checkbox.
(8) Click OK to exit the Advanced Properties dialog box
(9) Click OK to exit the Display Properties dialog box.
At this point you may have to restart your PC.
After the restart, you should be able to use Maya quite normally!!!!
That'll do donkey... that'll do...
