PLEASE HELP STITCHING POLYGONS

I am a newby...please help ..this is the scenario

I have a full model divided in 6 parts,, 2 arms, the torso 2 legs and a head...

THE PROBLEM
I align the vertices perfectly using the snaps. When I want to attach the arms to the shoulder of my model, but when I use some animation, the arm doesnt STAY attached to the torso, I tried using merge vertices, but its not working, everything I try to animate, the arm moves idependently of the body, its a basic thing please helpme.

how can I attach the parts and animate without losing the connection.

have you combined the different parts using 'Combine polygons'?

You need to select 2 parts you want to join - click on Combine then use merge verts after that

cheers
