maya & stargate and cloaking/decloaking ships

greetings all, i was wondering has anyone been able to do a stargate animation or
a spaceship rippling for cloaking/decloaking ie appearing/disspearing.
Someone mentioned that you can use adobe photoshop for effects to put back into maya but i didn't think that was possible,

if anyone has any ideas let me know
thanks
bob

u can do that with an animated shader.
not on the ship, but a shader containing the ship. i would probably use a deformer on a ship with a water-like refraction or possibly glass refraction too. (or animate the refration) but more importantly add a deformer on a sphere or a stand in for the ship ( a low, low rez version of ship big enough to surrond real ship) with a cloaking shader and animate the refarction.
i might add some blobby particles to enhance the effect too.

[that's how i probably would do it.]
