I did this to check out the Maya unlimited fur and rendering with Mental Ray with Maya 6. I wanted to check out the main differences from rendering the old way in Maya software renderer and rendering with Mental Ray and final gathering and all those goddies. Got some decent render times considering Final Gath, Global illum. fur and rendering in HD took about 15 mins to render.

No need to setup extra lights for fur anymore if your using Mental Ray. I put one spotlight for the shadow only DOF was done in Photoshop afterwards. Hope
