I'm using only one light (directional) for my landscape (sunset over an old drive-in) and although the shadows are nice, they just seem too straight. I'd like some distortion. Think Tim Burton or those old Bugs Bunny. I like the directional light because it gives the look of one light source far away from the subject, but when you walk outside, real light can react in a way that make the shadow creepier. I hope I'm not too confusing.
maybe do a second directional light with a very low intensity in the same location of the first directional light, only offset slightly? It would give a second shadow technically, but might give you the look you want.
