hoop dreams

I had just recieved my Learning tools Rendering book & DVD and just wanted to create something simple to test lights and a little raytracing. I used Maya PLE 6 wich I have on my work computer for when I get home. I might recreate it on my home computer with Unlimited.

looks good but could be a little lighter, and something seems wrong with the net.

I agree I was afraid when I posted it that it may seem to dark. The net is quite mesed up I just used a very low poly cylinder with a grid texture and I really didn't do a good job of modeling it. I will try to clean that up though. Thanks for the comments

i think you went about making the net correctly(alpha maps and textures) modeling that would be... just too much.

Ide say lighten up the scene, add a simple basketball placed on the ground, and do an "Upshot" of the hoop to show its size. The upshot will show a weird angle of the net so it will be harder to dee it, and the upshot will show its hight, while giving it more of a feel IMO.

Rememebr basketball nets arent straight cylinders, they tapper at the bottom(to slow th eball down after going through), sometimes they tapper in the middle and go back out at the very bottom.
