need help with my first animation!!

This is what I want to animate.....

I want to simulate a vase that contains flowers to drop from the wind.

I would just like to start with the flower and vase dropping in a certain direction, for now.

But I don't know the best way to do this. Do I make the flowers passive soft bodies, then parent it to the vase, then keyframe the vase rotating until it falls???

Any suggestions are most welcome , or maybe there's a tutorial that I can learn from that would teach me the rudiments of making things mover in relation to one another??
