Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

i dont know what kind of light your using but if your using a spot light, put the penumbra angle{in the spot light attributes} to 10 or soemting. that shoud give u a nice blured shadow

em no that just blurs the edge of the spotlight it wont affect your shadows at all. I think you're thinking of another setting which is dmap filter size. Try playing with that and the bias controls.

also try using area lights and point lights, they tend to give softer shadows however the take much longer to render.

look i dont know y you've been attacking every response i tried to give in this forum trying to help some people out, but i can garantee you that increasing the pneumbra angle of the spotlight and rendering it will give the exact shadow effects shown in shere 2.

no you should check your info before you post. Also you should check before you start "attacking" (i wasnt attacking you I was correcting the wrong information you were providing people!) me. I have been using this program for 3 1/2 years and I use it EVERYDAY as a lighting TD!!

Look at my pic attached penumbra angle affects the falloff of light towards the edge of the spotlight and has NOTHING to do with shadows hence why it's not in the shadows tab! user added image

If you've got a problem with me correcting your information then PM and I'll discuss it with you. BUt check your facts first!

Ps. Penumbra angle of 20 in the right hand side spot see how it DOESNT affect the shadow edge!!

Electronic communication is hard to interpret how people are actually responding. If you could see them then you'd realise they weren't being offensive, just to the point.
I personally use the smileys a lot more than in the past to reflect the overall mood of the post. user added image

ok i was wrong, but the thing is that i was just trying to help pulling out ideas to solve some problem. and for every reply ive tried to come up with , i see some post right under mine telling me"NO YOUR WRONG BLA BLA BLA" and its from the SAME guy! whereas everybody else was cool about it and they simply added their own ideas on how to solve the problem. i read a bunch of replies that dont fix the asked problem all the time in the simplymaya forums and other forums.

but its cool now, ill make sure next time ill double check my ideas b4 i post. :-)

well it's great that you were trying to help and I think it's great to see people helping each other out on the boards. However I wont sit here and let you "gaurantee" people when the info is wrong (i'm a mod it's kinda what I'm supposed to do user added image) I'm sorry if you thought I was attacking all your posts (they just happened to be the same threads I was reading) please keep on being an active member of the boards (but dont be upset if someone corrects you)
