Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character
Best might be to find a real flower petal. Flatten it and observe the shape. Try to recreate that in a plane. Perhaps via lofting of curves.
Then you can manipulate the CVs to give it a rounded shape. Have a fiddle and post a pic of what you get.
You need to balance the amount of CVs you get when generating your surface though. Too many and it's a real pain getting all the CVs into position to give you a nice realistic shape. Too little and you can't add the detail.
get side views of the pedals from downloaded pics .. or scan a real pedal from a real flower and a picture .. then just put the picture onto a plane and shape another plane or a flattened cube to similar shape of the rose pedal?
talking about roses. .. in one of my mobster scenes (when i get good enuf) i'm definatly adding the terminator 2 clip, when he takes the hsot gun out of the rose box, ,, that's super pimp
I've only used non-linear bends once on one project so I'm still getting used to how they deform objects but I'll try it. I was thinking about doing polygon planes before I posted this thread but I wanted to make sure that was the way to go. Thanks guys! I'll try them and see what comes out of it. Nice model BTW Magicsy...
