Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Screwman

Hello folks,

I've been lost for inspiration recently (hence no posts) but I did manage to drag this little man out of my mind and onto the screen this afternoon.

Making him has given me a couple of ideas for another model, perhaps you will see it come to fruition in the WIP forum later.

Anyway here you go, enjoy,

Mat.

the screw head doesnt have a slot for the flat screw driver, its outlined but you need to hollow it out so a screw driver could actually go into the screw head

Ha ha - nice work mat - sorry to hear that you are out of inspiration though. It can be tough sometimes to keep at it.

Whatever happened to your dancing robot? - some robotic dance moves would be ideal for the latest challenge.

Cheers for your thoughts,

Yeah the dancing robot, I was thinking about that the other day arran but I couldn't even motivate myself to open the file!! I'll get round to it at some point!

The texture was just thrown on, a 5 minute job, so I can fully understand why you don't like it Gamestarf. I don't think I'm going to do any more to it though as the model has served it's purpose, to inspire me. Having said that I have raised the bump map a touch for you arneoog and there are now slots in the screws as suggested by Turbo Dan, the original ones were just a bump map (me being lazy I suppose).

I think the reason the textures seem to jump at people is because the wood appears near photo-real (or heading that way) and the screws look like they were vector rendered (or at least cartoon rendered.

Could be right there Xander-O,

I just did a quick FG render on under a white sphere so the screws had nothing to reflect apart from the sphere making them look a little odd. Cheers for the feedback,

take it easy,

Mat.
