Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

mate i had the same problem a few weeks ago and had to go on a serious fix around because i couldnt find a solution, I read the dwg into max, then exported as an obj which i then read into maya. Unless you can find a free plugin which i couldnt.

ya man...i read your post...
but one thing for sure....there must be an easier way to deal with this problem other than your complicated conversion series.....
i searched thru the net for a plugin and found one....in fact let me just post it here...but i couldn't start it out....i pretty much did all the instructions....but i really got lost there...and reached some sort of a block way....
here it is.....
but if there anybody got the maya 6.0 eddition ...hope that they can post the plugin file that's installed in the directory itself....i think that it might be the solution for all of this....in fact i have the maya 6.0 cd but i really dont wanna go over uninstalling the 7.0 version and installin the 6.0 then undoin the whole operation .... it will take too much time .... and im not 100% sure that it will work after all....
here is the directory if anybody can help(maya 6.0 users):
C:\Program Files\Alias\Maya6.0\bin\plug-ins\(the plugin's name i think "dwg/dfx plugin" something like that...)

and here is the plugin that i have found ... if anybody got a clue for how to activate it please HIT US BACK...
caio
(sorry couldnt upload it .... here is the link that i have found
https://www.9iv.com/DOWN/controls/dow...d=2267#....hit the Alias "Studiotools DWG DXF Import Plugin 13.0" button then a little widnow will apear....click in the japanese word....and here comes the file ....and the password is :https://www.9iv.com/ )
hope that anybody can help us right here:headbang: :headbang:

I have dwgtranslator.mll for version 7, and I didn't get it from version 6. It is available in my PLUG-IN manager. I am not sure if it came with the BONUS TOOLS for 7 or not. But it is there.

If you go here and signup at Autodesk site you can download Bonus Tools for both version 7 and 8. I looked in Version 8 and In IMPORT I have both DWG and DXF import capability. I didn't have to go through Plugin Manager to load it in 8.

very interesting

I hear ya guy, I have maya 8.5 & the stupid thing really sucks. I couldn't import a DWG which drove me nuts. After doing some knocking around the web I found out yes maya will import a DWG file but this is only the case on windows. If you use a mac then your shit out of luck.

Your other option is to export the file as a DFX file or convert a DWG to a DFX. I tried both ways. Everything was going fine then jack join the party & called it quits so yep! maya shut dow & by the 3rd. shutdown I gave up. The way I see it is spending some bucks on some plugin at least for mac users.
If you find a solution, let me know...
