How can I make neon lights actualy be a light?

this cant be acheived with the maya renderer.

u need to use mental ray shader. search for CTRL_light shader on cgtalk. with uses object as actual light source. [i dont mean thet ambient using final gather, i mean using the "phisycal object" as a light "bulb" so to speak]
