polysew blendshape prob..

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had advice on a blendshape problem i have.

I have 8 face shapes for blending. The have been nicely put into a blendshape and I have re attached the main head back to the body.

on a couple of the face expressions, some of the polygons "unmerge" and I get a warning saying something like . edges not sewn.

I dont know how to check the threshold of the join.. Or basically I dont know what to do to stop it from happening.
I am using maya 8...

Well, I found out that its works ok if I used 'Merge Vertices' instead of merge edges...

the merge edge gave me trouble for some reason....
