Wine glasses

I had started to use Realflow 4 and got inspired to do wine pouring in a glass and so needed to learn how to render glass. I started with just a blinn and going with caustics, but the I tried the dielectric material for MR and for not knowing anything about glass I was surprised. I see that the shadow doesn't show throught the glass and I belive it is because the blinn that the dielectric is assigned to is not trnsparent.

I will get the glasses and the bottle of wine. Maybe a cutting board with some bread and cheese. But it is fun trying to see if I can do it.

Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.

Well it does appear that the blinn not being transparent was the problem. I toned down on some of the highlights n the glasses, and seems to make them look abit better.

I am going to try and do something with the shadows, but this is my first real rendering experience.

looks good, though in my opinion the wood is a bit too reflective at the moment. also it might be nice to make the ground plane a different material, just to break up the scene a little.

keep up the good work!user added image

Thanks Arran. Been awhile. Yes, I had just thrown that together and was just getting carried away with the wine glasses for today. I will change the ground plane and lower some of the reflections.

I think I will leave the shadows out, at least for now.

Thanks again for your comments!!

Well, I changed the scene as Arran had suggested. Worked out the shadows some, but they need work also. I am learning caustics now since never made glass or used caustic before. But this is fun!!!

Thanks Matt. I am using the Dielectric Material, and it was set at 1.50. I am having some better success with the shadows and will post what I have to this point in the morning. The Dielectric Material certinaly seems very good!!!!

I have been having too much fun trying to learn to do glass. I just wanted a glass for a project in Realflow, and it lead to something else. I think for now I will leave the glasses as they are and move on to the animating wine pouring in one of them.

I see that I must have not done my spline quite right for the revolve as there is quite a distortion in both glasses around the middle.

Thanks for your comments.
