Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

Rigging Confusion

I made a basic hand model b/c I want to learn how to creat a basic rig. I created the model and created the skeleton, but I am not sure how to make it interact with the model. Ive been looking through books and looking at online tutorials, and downloaded the skeleton tut from this site thinking it would have rigging in there as well but i just learned how to edit my skeleton :/ help would be highly appreciated because i need to have this rig done by tomorrow mid day

First select the joints and object then use the bind skin >>skin>>bind skin>>smooth skin, then create IK handles to make the joints move more like a human hand (otherwise you must move each joint seperately.

Then use the "paint weight" tool >>skin>>edit smooth skin>>paint skin weight tool<< or the >>window>>general editor>>component editor>>smooth skins<< so that the right joint controls the right vertexes(otherwise it will most likely just look weird.)

Best of luck!

I would use a rigid bind, and then use Set Driven Keys to animate all the hand. Use Custom Attributes in the Channel Box for control, or create a NULL and use that to tag your Custom Attributes.

Kurt has a small tute on here for Hand Controls go grab it and watch it. It will help
