duplicate part of a model ?

Hello all,

Is there an easy way to duplicate part of a model to use somwhere else on that same model?

I was about to select the faces to extract and duplicate and then merge them back on again. But there should be an easier way than to destroy the model just to make a copy of a small part, right?
Or dublicate the whole model and delete what I don't need ...

U'd think that copy/paste would be usefull here somehow. But it doesn't seem to do anything with my selection of faces. user added image
