Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.
Hi all, I am new to Maya. I have recently had a lot of spare time and decided to try something new. I have Learning edition 8.5 and have followed the tutorial videos no problem. However how do I merge items together so that for example when I make a face and turn it, all of the features pivot together as opposed to in their exact current place. I dont wish to ask lots of annoying questions but I have been searching on the web and all of the help files in the program and cant find out how to do this. Are there any other free basic beginner tutorial vids on the web available for download just to get me 1 step further as I could do with a little more help. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
well in this case you group all your objects with ctrl+g
what this does is it creates a null node/new transform node above all nodes you selected and with it you get a new pivot around which everything rotates...
Here is a pic to help illustrate what BadG3r is talking talking about. In the pic, the cone, cylinder, and cube have all been grouped into the sphere, making it the main node. As you can see, I have rotated the group showing that the sphere is indeed the main group node, and thus controlls the others.
