Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

exploding image

hello,

I'd like to make a little animation of an image which explodes into individual particles (in the form of square pixels). Anyone got suggestions on how to accomplish this?

thanks!

I would probalby make a poly plane, split up the faces, add the image to that then turn it into rigid bodies and then use a radial field to move them about.

My first choice would be to do that in post.

There is a feature in After Effects, also in Flame and Fusion, that is called "Scatter" that does precisely this.

However if you feel you MUST do this in Maya, check the help on emitting particles based on the RGB values of a texture image.
These particles will also inherit the rgb color value of the pixel it is born from.

Keep in mind that this CAN take a long while to calculate depending on your machine.

There are also a few melscripts that do what you need available on Highend's mel-scripts area for Dynamics.

Good luck!

i gota go with rage.., the days of doing everything in maya are gone for me.., use a number of different apps for better results. Fusion is nice, but expensive (we have it at school) After effects is affordable and a brilliant app.

maya, well, maya rules when it comes to elements for compositions user added image

@racecgi;...........Flame?
It seems a bit of an overkill to use that for something like moving some simple blocks around, unless he's making a 10k scene or something like that.
LOL

At work we use the Flame suites even for very simple things because of the realtime feedback while onlining in front of the client.
Not for film-res plates tho, only hd broadcast, etc.

Yeah, sorry phonk, After Effects would be perfect for thisuser added image
