Need help on Maya 7 unlimitted!!

Hi guys!!
Completely new in Maya please bare with me here. Im following a tutorial on modelling that i Download from this site . Is the Basic Human Form Tutorial with Mr frankie. I havent been able to get too far. When importing the image file into Maya everything seems to be ok till i get to the part where i have to create a sphere from the Nurbs Primittive, here comes the issue, the sphere texture or surface is reflecting the image file meaning you can see the image file all around the sphere. Pretty annoying !! Dont know what to do, i was checking into parenting and unparenting but not luck at all!! Anything I do to the sphere affects the image file on the plane and viceversa. I need help! Please!

You probably mapped the texture to your sphere by mistake. Make sure tha you assign your sphere the lambert 1 texture so it doesn't do that. Otherwise, it could be a graphics card issue. Post up a pic so we can see exactly whats goin on.

You might have accidently mapped the texture to thedefault lambert, which woul make every object have the image applied to it.
