Uv Mapping (auto map)

Im trying to do uv mapping on my apple stim and when i try to connect the edges it comes out funny looking ( not sure if it suppose to look like this or not). I would appreciate any help.

what did you do to get it looking like that?

if you just hit one button then you'll still have a fair bit of work ahead of you.

or is this what happens when you do a 'move and sow'?

keep in mind that laying out UVs won't usually be just a single push of a button in Maya.
even if you used tools like roadkill or headus, you'll still have to adjust the UVs yourself afterwards.

After i used auto mapping, I clicked the edges and started using the move and sow button. Im still real new to maya so should i just use the shader options first, or go head a learn how to do the uv textures now?

not sure if that should be happening like that... can't really tell what you did to get like that unless you took a video

anyway, there's not reason why you shouldn't not learn how to lay out uvs

you can stick with just the nodes in the hypershade for now if you want, but if you think you can handle textures then by all means go for it user added image

If it's a stem, use cylindrical mapping.
