Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

hey need some advice again

just have a look at the ref images i dont really know how to explain it otherwise, its the fact the object has 3 colour tones(image1) to it and when smoothed it rounds of the vertex (image2), yet the mesh looks like image 3. any help as to why its happening, its all one object?

Could be non manifold geo.

Select one of the faces in low poly and delete it, if there is a face still there then thats the problem

Cheers

Perform a vertex merge on your mesh with a low tolerance 0.01 or something.

This behaviour is typical of when verticies arn't merged when using exponential smoothing.

If you go to your construction history and change the smoothing method to linear the problem will reveal itself.
