This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

Getting Back into maya..... (: (Minecraft!)

Gezz, haven't been on simply maya in a while, boy has it change. user added image
Haven't touched maya in about a year, school and social life has been in the way and i've decided to try and get back into it again. Lately i've been addicted to minecraft so i decided to do some tools as a start as they are very blocky. Spent about 30 mins and this is what i've got at the moment user added image
Comments and Feedback are welcome (:

Decided to go try do some blocks, try a bit of basic texturing user added image. Found all the textures on this paper craft website ( https://thedailyblock.tumblr.com/cutouts ) So it was pretty easy, after 30 mins of work i got some decent blocks done (:
Ps. The grass block messed up in the render but it's fine in the normal view ;P

Looks good man, you gonna do the Netherrack and the rest of 'em as well? And are you planning to do a huge scene with them, or just make the parts?

Grrr Lighting

Bit of a noob with lighting, don't have a clue hoe to do it. I've tried doing some lighting but it just won't work, it will either come out pitch black or too bright. Can somebody please help me! This is the scene i currently got. I want to try and get the scene well light with the lava in the middle a source of light glowing. Any help welcome!! (:

welcome home monkey!

what are you doing with your lighting currently? You could start with a directional light with default settings and adjust it from there.

to make the lava look glowing, plug in a texture to the incandescence slot of the lava material

that's a "Ch" pronounced as a "K"

Computer skills I should have:
Objective C, C#, Java, MEL. Python, C++, XML, JavaScript, XSLT, HTML, SQL, CSS, FXScript, Clips, SOAR, ActionScript, OpenGL, DirectX
Maya, XSI, Photoshop, AfterEffects, Motion, Illustrator, Flash, Swift3D

So i messed about a bit with the lighting. I put a area light over the lava with 1.1 intensity and 2 other directional lights about 0.9 and 1.5 one tinted a slight bit yellow and this is what i got. I also put some toon lines as well (:
