Green Letter "S"

I was working on a model today and I noticed that a green "S" appeared in the center of the model. I didn't notice exactly what I was doing when it appeared so I cant figure out how to get rid of it. Can anyone identify what it means?

Thanks, that explains it. Do you know how to get rid of it because at this point it's just kind of annoying.

The model is, but I'm talking about getting rid of the "S".

You were right, I couldn't select it because it was inside my model in the view port. But I selected it and its gone.

Thanks a bunch,
Frank

You can delete the view port, it should also be so-called soft mode of treatment. Select it and delete it.
