Simple peg - clothes pin

I managed to model a clothes pin, or sometimes referred to as a peg. The peg is modeled to scale being roughly ~ 3 inches. I lit the scene following this tutorial Did not quite get the lighting I was looking for, but better than I had earlier today.

I also have a series of renders here.

If anyone has any idea of getting lighting right hit me up. I would include the scene file, but I guess I can't upload .ma files (-.-)

First off, try bevelling the edges of the pin so that they are not super sharp, that can help the look of the lighting too sometimes.

Yes you can...as long as you zip it and its smaller than 1M you can upload .ma. Otherwise you could always dropbox or similar. Lighting is a very tricky subject...if you are able I would suggest going to the training section and download the essential lighting tut mate.

I agree with stwert...bevel the edges...makes it appear smooth as nothing is truly that sharp.

I would ditch the procedural wood texture. It's really hard to make it look good, plus the grain is wrong too. You could find a nicer wood texture from google and use that instead. Go for something that's about 2k in size.

Alright, I made some updates, gone is the procedural wood texture. I added some bevels to a couple of edges. I also watched the "3 point lighting technique video" and redid the lighting, so this is what I got.
