Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character
I'd say 3Ds max fits that description better.
My maya has crashed (rarely, usually whenever I have waaay too many polys in one scene) and still, the file was left intact. Once there was even a power outage. The file was still intact. I do make backups though just to be safe.
3Ds max on the other hand... crashed whenever I made a mistake (sometimes I could cause the crashes on purpose if I wanted to, such as binding a biped skeleton to a mesh, it turned into a dummy and then crashed the scene when selecting it or something like that).
It also damaged files upon crashing. Even a mere power outage would destroy a 3ds file.
