Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

hello. is there any way to put an object into the hypershade from the viewport? i always drag objects from the outliner, but it takes long to find objects i need.

I am afraid not.

the hypershade contains materials, textures, lights, shading groups, bake sets, assets, and some other stuff but not objects.

the hypergraph on the other hand does contain the object nodes and you can organize it but that is really not the normal way to work. Most I would expect name and organize things in the outliner and use it.

You can also create layers and place objects into layer groups.

Au contraire, my dear Rick. Just select your object in the viewport and then graph "input and output connections" and your nodes will show up in the hypershade.

If you're using 2013, have you tried using the node editor? It's meant to combine a lot of the hypergraph and hypershade functionality.

Edit: I should clarify, they will be in the work area, which I assume is what you want. No, you can't put geo in the materials tab, for example.

If you mean the work area tab then yeah you can use any of the `graph` options. Also in that same Graph menu, you have `add selected to graph` which avoids some of the clutter of adding nodes and connections you might not care to see.

This bit of code does the same thing, so you can add that to your shelf if you want. It adds the selected node[s] to the active work area tab.

Code:
if (`panel -ex hyperShadePanel1`)
        hyperShadePanelGraphCommand("hyperShadePanel1", "addSelected");

doh my bad. I have not used 2013 much yet and honestly have never seen the hypergraph used for anything but what I listed.

Thanks for the info I will check it out.

Okay, it effectively looks the same as the hypergraph layout just dumped into the hypershade work area?

But to be honest I do not see how moving all your objects into the work area of the hypergraph is going to make selecting objects any faster then using the outliner especially for a very complex model.

Take my 50 cal machine gun. This is fully expanded on a 23' display. good luck trying to do something with it. The hypergraph hierarchy tree seems more useful and even that for a large model gets cluttered and hard to use.

I must admit the node editor looks pretty slick I wish I could get it into 2012 without having to install the SAP version. I really do not like to go to the SAP versions. They do not play well with the non-SAP version and they are harder to keep up to date with service packs. I got seriously wrapped around the axle once trying to test the SAP version and vowed I would never touch an SAP release unless it was on a dedicated beta test machine

You don't need 2013 to display it in the hypershade, only in the node editor.

He's also not talking about graphing his entire scene; just certain objects, so it won't be that bad. Since I've become a rigger, I literally live in the damn thing nowadays.

yeah I know this ND, I was just commenting that I use 2012 more then 2013 currently and I wish I could get the node editor into 2012 without having to go sap.

Ah that would make sense. I am always happy to learn new stuff. Thanks
