so I've got a buddy who uses scanline to render out his images instead of raytrace, was wondering if there's anyone else who swears by scanline renders, and is it truely a faster better way to render with a raytrace secondary like i've seen in my recent searches?
Are you talking about scanline in 3ds max, or in general?
If you're talking about in general, the short answer is that it depends on what you're doing. Raytracing and scanline are completely different rendering techniques. If you're interested, read through these:
