Importing a .jpg file on a Blinn/Plane

Ok when I try to put a picture file onto a Plane of any size also has a Blinn on it. I get the picture I choose but it is always cropped smaller and is never clear or in focus? I have tried very large pic's and very small. All come in changed. Is there a setting I need to set in order to bring in a pic onto my plane. I have preserve aspect ratio checked in my plane properties but does not help me?

OK so here is my pic after saving it off the web. its size is 2718x1808 ( I have also tried a size 280x178 with the same results) I put the image on a plane with a Blinn. I think the first pic already looks different just saving it. thats BallRoom_01. The second stage of the pic BallRoom_02 degraded again but still full. And then lastly once on the Blinn its cropped way smaller and clearity is gone. I have attached the 3 stages of pics. I hope you can see it this is my first try at showing a pic. They are n tiff formate so I may have to change that? Let me know what ya think. Thanks.

There are a few things you can try make your poly plane size 27.18x18.08 then like I said do a UV projection on it, second thing would be to change your shader to a lambert and last thing would be to see what it looks like when you render it.................dave
