I am modeling a cat and when I modeled the head I decided it would be easier to model the ears separately. I did that and when I combined the head and the ear, the rendering looks off. There is a noticeable line where the meshes were combined as seen in the attached image.
I at first thought it was a maya rendering bug so I tried just changing the shader. That didn't work. I then made sure it just wasn't something that just showed up in the viewport and not in the mental ray render but that wasn't true. I would appreciate any suggestions as to how to fix this problem.
It's not enough to just combine the meshes. They will still look like distinct because that's how they are. In order for them to appear seamless, you actually have to connect the edges and faces together by deleting some faces, bridging between others, and tweaking the vertices in between. Look at some wireframe images of other models (heads and ears etc) to see how the mesh should be. Hope that helps.
