Top layer is not receiving shadows

I'm using the dj_mix_colors node to compile a miaX as my base metal layer and a Lambert to overlay some rust on top. It's overlapping properly but the rust layer isn't shading correctly (not receiving shadows). I've messed with the blending modes, and although there's a small change, it still doesn't shade correctly.

I've included some image samples. The first image shows the shadowing problem with the overlaying rust and the second shows the rust layer embedded into the base layer. The base layer shadows properly but the rust isn't shading the way it's supposed to, thus my desire to have it on top using a different shader.

Any idea of what I'm doing wrong?

::SOLVED::

The black area is not a shadow.

It's actually just a reflection of another black surface

Back to work ... *blush*
