Modeling books

Hey guys. Recently I've been trying to model a book for a scene. An open book with some of the pages slightly lifted. I've tried several ways and I can get it to look like a book but the realism of the pages isn't there. The only realistic tutorials I can find deal with Ncloth and I don't wanna use that. Does anyone have any advice or resources on modeling books? Thanks.

Can i ask why you don't want to use ncloth? You can just convert the cloth back to a mesh when you have finished with it so...

You could also try a lattice deformer on a poly plane, several ways to do it I just wondered why no cloth.

Well mostly because I have very little experience with ncloth. Also because I want to stick to the polygonal workflow as I am more into game design.
