Improve performance

What can I do to improve the performance of my computer when using Maya?
When I use fluid effects my computer really slows after caching, the only thing that seems to help is if I restart my computer after Caching is complete. Any ideas to improve my current PC? Its a i7 with 12GB ram.

Also what would you recommend for future computer purchases for using Maya?

Thanks!

Adding an SSD drive and using it for the cache really helped speed my Maya up

Other than that you're not really going to get many improvements if you are already using an i7 with 12gb in it.
