Rendering a model with lights shining on it

Hi, I'm new to this site and this seemed the most relevant thread.

I have a helicopter I'm rendering with MentalRay and it has a few lights shining on it.
It's a 10 second sequence. My aim is to bring it into After Effects as a .psd layered image.
The problem I was having was the image layers were all showing up completely black (except for BeautyPass).

I realised that my lights weren't being rendered, possibly because they aren't keyed or parented to the camera?

Thanks! user added image

Hi friend, I was wondering if you find a solution to your problem as I am having the same problem.

Hi, sorry for the late reply.

Well the way I was doing it, it involved a lot of Ambient Lights which doesn't work when rendering with Mental Ray, so as far as I could tell that was my issue.
So I used Area Lights instead.

If you're rendering with MentalRay this could be the problem, I hope user added image

There's a page I found which is part of the Maya FAQs on their site but can't seem to find it now.

Somewhere in here I think....
