Can't see Z-axis in polygons

Hello everyone, I have just started today with Maya 2015 and I am following basic tutorials. But something I have noticed in the videos is that when something is creadted, a Z-axis appears on the object, but in my program doesn't. Here is an example.

I don't see your manipulator at all. Try Modify - Center Pivot.

and if neither of those 2 suggestions work then you may have accidentally hidden the manipulator, the show manipulator tool is under the General tab,
