thank you mike for your knowledge. the tut was great. have a ? though having problems with tweaking the lattice points for some reason. also had a question about the maya dragon (homepage) use to breath fire with MAYA inside how would i create that effect say out of izzys ring of fire tut. thanks in advance looking forward to learning more from you ....

For the fire, you could check out the SM flamethrower tutorial, and that will do you just fineuser added image

you can select the lattice points and key them by pressing "S" key.

Also regarding keying lattice points, or chunks of points/vertices in general:

Select the points you want to animate
Create a Cluster for them (this makes the points selectable in the outliner etc.)
Animate the clusters instead of the actual point - this will give you greater control and overview of your scene.
