Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Fullsail

Anyone know anything about FullSail College (www.fullsail.com) down in Orlando? I was checking out their site, and their facilties look pretty damn sweet. The only thing I'm concerned about is that they have no entry requirments other than High school diploma, so it seems anybody could get in, probably making it not carry much weight in the job market. Oh yeah also, anyone know their tuition fees? I spent about an hour looking through their site and didnt see any real numbers for tuition. user added image

any information would be great

Hi,

I go to Full Sail right now. I graduate in 4 months. This is actually a very touchy topic at my school and there is an infamous thread over at cgtalk about Full Sail with comments from Mark Wilkins of PDI/Dreamworks.

You are right about no entry requirements, and at first there are a bunch of meatheads that think 3d is "cool" and that's about it.
The thing about that is, that they generally get weeded out as time goes on. You really have to be dedicated and really want to do this to succeed here. Crazy lab hours and such a fast pace just cuts them down one by one. We started with over 40 students in my class (every month starts a new class) and we're down to about 20 people.

Tuition is about 32,000 plus you have to take out more for living expenses because you really won't be able to work. Not really able to keep a steady job because hours radically fluctuate, and there is so much work to do. Take that into consideration when calculating expenses.

The equipment and labs are sweet, they have every type of machine with every type of software here. We just got a new Mac G4 lab with those huge cinema displays (23" I think). We'll have Maya 5 this month I believe also.

It might not be the best school (I don't know) but it does teach you a lot BUT you should definitely learn more on the side. I watch every training video I can get my hands on, every book I can read, and every tutorial from every website I can. I'm a member vip here and a member sponsor at 3dBuzz for extra tutorials. This has been recommended to me as being what would separate myself from other students. Go "above and beyond" what is REQUIRED of you. To quote my instructor Larry Santaw "Don't be average"! This is what seems to make the people that have left Full Sail and made it to ILM, Pixar, Disney, etc... succeed.

Any other specifics you want to know, just ask.
