Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Shader Library

Hi everyone,

Sorry I have not been around for a while, anyway who cares...

So the question:

I created some nodes and I exported them into a folder in Maya's Shaded Library.

I notice though that there is no preview of them in the shaded library were the nodes that come with the library all can be previwed. How do I go about greating the preview of my created nodes?

Thanks anybody

Make a simple scene file of a sphere or whatever using your shader. Render out a 200 x 200 .iff file and rename it with same name as the shader file but with the suffix, .swatch (e.g., if your shader is called gold.ma, change the swatch name from gold.iff to gold.ma.swatch. Then you just copy this to the .mayaswatches folder directly underneath the folder your shader is in. Sounds a little confusing but is pretty easy.
