Mike, I thought you knew 3DSMax really well in terms of skills?

Actually, I had never touched 3DS Max until my first day here at my job! While I still do the majority of my work in Maya and then pass it into Max, I'm learning it at a pretty fast clip.

Does that mean each person at your studio gets to use the program they hare happiest with? Or are you using your own copy of maya?

Yes, we're able to use whichever we are comfortable with. The only reason I'm probably able to do that is because the Art Director himself uses Maya! user added image

At my local community college, there are people saying that the Maya user interface is alot harder to use than the 3DSMax interface, therefore they think 3DSMax is better. Your thoughts on this mike? I ask this because I don't have 3DSMax, and have never used it.

I can't stand 3DS Max. Maya is SOOOOO much easier. But, really, it all depends on what you're used to. If I've been using Max for the past 4 years and were just now learning Maya, I'm pretty sure I'd think the opposite.

As for my un-biased opinion, I truly do think that Maya's UI is more user-friendly.

Yeah, I can see how that works. Just curious, what is it about the Max UI that you can't stand?

Just little stuff. And it might just be because I haven't quite gotten the hang of it.

To map UVs, for example, first you have to apply a UVWmap modifier. Then you move your planar map gizmo or whatever. To then edit the UVs in an equivalent of Maya's UV Tex Editor you have to then apply UnwrapUVW modifier... not too bad, right? But if you want to edit the mesh, you have to then apply an EditMesh modifier.... want to go back to editing UVs? Apply ANOTHER UnwrapUVW modifer. Etc.

Blah.
