Smoothing my poly model

Hi, I have a polygon model of a giraffe that I want so look much smoother i've included a pic of the quick render.
Whats the best way to smooth him without loosing to much detail?

Looks like it already has plenty of geometry. I think you'd just need to Edit Polygons > Normals > Soften/Harden Edges > Options. Choose All Soft and apply.

Just tried that but nothing happens except the frame turns from green to white?

You might also try investigating Edit Polygons > Normals > Average Normals. That command works at the object, face, and vertex levels.
