exporting a movie

OK please dont get mad at me for asking such a seemingly stupid question. I have made several short animations using maya for a uni project. I cant seem to export the animaton to avi. I ahve used frameblast and my stuff looks good. Could anyone tell me what i set the render globals to? just the main points. thanks for your time.

JB.

You can set the filetype to avi. And set the frame extension to something so you get the time range boxes activated. You could also render the whole thing as a sequence of images and do the video compression in post using for example Virtual dub (free, easy, does avi), this is preferrable because sometimes you have to reencode using different quality settings and formats and you don't want to rerender.
