Converting an AVI File to TIFF Files for "Live" Animation

Hey Everyone,

I want to merge some AVI video with some MAYA characters and I read that I need to convert my AVI video snippit to TIFF files before importing them into my Maya workspace. My questions are:

- Is this true or can I just attach the AVI to a plane?
- What tools can do this and are they freeware or $$$?
- I've also heard that I can use MAYA Live. Is this an add-on or just a function of Maya?

All I am looking to do is have a 10 second video of my baby daughter and have like an object bounce through the frame. Nothing fancy like dinosaurs or UFO's or anything, just a basic shape (I'll get to the dinosaurs later).

Thanks everyone. I've been neglecting my Maya development but I'm back and ready to get back in the seat!!!

Chris, Baltimore.
