ambient occlusion maps

so i'm going through a shader tut right now and its gettign to the point where its making specular maps out of the skin texture it already has. Now since i dont have a normal skin shader and just a color map exported rom mudbox would exporting an ambient occlusion map give the same effect?

No. Ambient occlusion is for those small areas that need details picking out, dirt and so on, its used to pick out surfaces that are close to each other.

You can usually make a spec map from your color map. But if its for your girl character, I cant see you getting much from the color map as there's not much detail on it from what Ive seen. So you may have to make yourself a custom map. Create a black texture and create shades of grey and white in the areas you want to have specularity, white being very bright of course and usually good for lips (with lipstick)
