I've had this problem before too, but I don't remember what the settings of my scene were. In new scenes I can make the mia materials show in renders right away. Can't get mia_material_x to show up in rendering no matter what I select mental ray etc. What could be wrong?

Does it show in the viewport? Have you pressed 6 on the keyboard?
Edit:
Make sure your render is set to Mental Ray. It is on default on Maya Software, and it cannot see Mia Materials.
Also try to re-load Mayatomr.mll, maybe it's a bug if you already tried MentalRay rendering with default / production settings.
alright so suddenly default mia_material works but I still get black with stuff like the glass preset and mib_glossy I have reflections and refractions and trace depth cranked up to 5 and 10Create another mia_material_x then assign that to your model see if that works.............dave
Do you have an environment for it to reflect?alright so suddenly default mia_material works but I still get black with stuff like the glass preset and mib_glossy I have reflections and refractions and trace depth cranked up to 5 and 10
it says at the bottom: lambert1:cyclic dependency detected but I don't think its relatedIs your script editor telling you anything? No warnings, errors? Can you show us a screenie of the render?
I created a physical sun and sky in the render options. The box has the solid glass texture applied and you can see it against the background but is just sitting there completely black. Its also rendering very quick compared to when it was actually working.Do you have an environment for it to reflect?
seems to have worked...it still looks alittle weird but whatevsIn the quality setting for rendering change the raytracing refraction to 20 or more............dave
