How to duplicate and make a mirror copy?

I started building a biped and I want to duplicate a leg and make a mirror copy at the same time. (I know I should have split the Torso and just built half, but I've moved a lot of points and I'll never get both sides back to symmetrical)

Is the leg part of the torso or is it a separate piece of geometry? If it's separate then you simply need to make sure the pivot is centered on the model then go to edit>duplicate special and set the axis that you want to mirror it across to -1.

If it's part of the torso geometry then you would be better to go to your front view and delete half the torso, snap the middle verts to the grid and then duplicate special as above.

Cheers, the Yeti.

Something seems amiss. I entered a -1 on the X-axis but what I got was an unmirrored leg. However; the leg is not one piece of geometry, but seven. Does that make a difference? Need I Boolean the pieces together before duplication?

Can I Boolean NURBS objects, or must they be converted to Polygons?

Marching blindly forward, I converted the boot to polygons, and the Duplicate Special worked just fine. I then Booleaned to two pieces together. I presume, at this point, I cannot return to NURBS?

you can group everything you need to mirror, and type -1 for the x value. freeze transformations after that and don't forget to revert normals.

Yep you can group them or combine meshs.

Why are so many people asking how to mirror all of a sudden. Has all basic maya training out there stop teaching some so basic ??? So to ask such a question in your fread mate but this is the 4/5 time I have seen a req for help with mirring in 2 weeks. At least its not just you arh.
