Object axis question

This one seem to other me for a long time - Forcing the move/roptate/scale tool to work along an objects axis,

I remember that I used to be able to modify it in the Move Tool Settings but it seem to not affect it anymore - ....

I know that in component mode the Move/Rotste/Scale Tool will do but in Object mode - I am stuck.

double click the move /rotate etc tool in the toolbar o the left and change it to object,world, local space as required.

I think that should sort it

It works but - why didn't it work when I approached the same tools sttings from the menu ?

mine does that too... im not sure why but usually restarting maya fixes it. it usually only does it when ive been running it for over 3 hours.
