insets too soft

What is the best way to get sharp insets when using polymodeling and smoothing? They get too soft for my taste.

Try beveling the faces that need to be sharper.

you need to add cuts and extrudes to firm up the surfaces. Basically it's trying to round off the egdes but if you put two cuts together really close then there is no space to round it off.
