how do i make joints smaller?

hi,

i've yust bought book about animation and rigging, but when i make joints, there bigger than the joints they show in the book. can someone tell me how to make them smaller?

I think you need to look in the preferences under joints.
I'll be more specific if this doesn't help. user added image
